{"id":342,"date":"2026-05-03T21:30:20","date_gmt":"2026-05-03T18:30:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsfire.gr\/en\/?p=342"},"modified":"2026-05-17T02:52:48","modified_gmt":"2026-05-16T23:52:48","slug":"iran-attacks-cargo-ship-in-strait-of-hormuz-new-regional-escalation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsfire.gr\/en\/iran-attacks-cargo-ship-in-strait-of-hormuz-new-regional-escalation\/","title":{"rendered":"Iran Attacks Cargo Ship in Strait of Hormuz\u2014New Regional Escalation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>A commercial ship in Iran was attacked by multiple small boats while sailing near the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday, according to British military authorities.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The ship, which was not immediately identified, was struck just off the coast of Sirik, Iran, slightly east of the strait, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/UK_MTO\/status\/2050951599057514824\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations Centre<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The entire crew was reported safe, with no group immediately claiming responsibility for the attack.<\/p>\n<p>However, Iranian military authorities have repeatedly warned that any vessel attempting to pass through the strait will be attacked unless it pays &#8220;tolls&#8221; and proves it is not connected to the U.S. or Israel.<\/p>\n<p>The ship was heading north toward the Persian Gulf\u2014it was not attempting to exit it.
