According to the report<\/a>, the production does not include a single visibly Greek actor, despite being based on one of the foundational works of Greek and Western heritage.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Homer’s “Odyssey,” a 2,800-year-old epic, recounts the adventures of Odysseus, king of Ithaca. It was written in Greek by a Greek for Greeks and constitutes a cornerstone of our cultural identity. Yet, Nolan’s film, which has received praise from Hollywood media for the “diversity” of its cast, does not appear to include Greek actors or any symbolic recognition of the work’s cultural origin.<\/strong><\/p>\n

As Greek City Times points out, Hollywood has for years been preaching the need for representation, inclusion, and cultural sensitivity.<\/strong> Studios and creators emphasize that authenticity matters and that one should not exploit a culture without giving voice to the people who represent it.<\/strong> Yet in this case, exactly the opposite appears to be happening.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The website asks: when a production adopts the rhetoric of modern diversity politics, why does it exclude Greeks from a story rooted in Greek tradition? There is not a single well-known Greek actor, nor a Greek-American,<\/strong> not even a gesture of respect<\/strong> toward the cultural source of the material.<\/p>\n

The article emphasizes that ancient Greece is not merely an aesthetic backdrop. “The Odyssey” embodies themes such as nostalgia for the homeland, faith, trial, identity, and perseverance, all through a distinctly Greek worldview. If representation matters, as Hollywood claims, then Greek representation must count too.<\/p>\n

Greek City Times concludes that “diversity” often functions as a selective tool, depending on political trends and awards calculations, rather than as a genuine ethical principle.<\/strong> This criticism brings to the surface the frequent contradiction<\/strong> between the entertainment industry’s words and actions.<\/p>\n
