In an interview with Le Journal du Dimanche, Darmanin<\/strong>, a member of President Emmanuel Macron’s<\/strong> Renaissance party, outlined his view that while race itself need not be a barrier to integration, a lack of respect for the values<\/em> of the French nation among some migrant groups has created serious obstacles.<\/p>\n The Justice Minister called for immediate action to stop legal immigration flows entirely for three years, arguing France must focus on those already within its borders. We have reached the limit of our capacities for integration and assimilation,<\/em> he stated, before adding that the country must also expel those subject to deportation orders and condition future visas on cooperation with removal procedures.<\/p>\n Darmanin further proposed ending automatic family reunification rights\u2014often referred to as chain migration\u2014which allow single visa holders to sponsor multiple relatives. He called for the introduction of restrictive annual quotas covering visa numbers, required skills, and countries of origin.<\/p>\n Darmanin is widely viewed as a likely candidate in the 2026 presidential race to succeed Macron, though he has not formally announced his intentions.
