The publication argues this modification amounts to window dressing on a fundamentally destructive ideology, as socialism and communism both stem from the same impulse to elevate government authority over the family unit.<\/p>\n<p>Florida public school students began taking a course this year approved in November 2025 by the state Board of Education called History of Communism Standards. Despite Churchill&#8217;s prescient warnings about communism&#8217;s inevitable ruinous outcome, an entire generation of Western leftists and fellow travelers spent decades whitewashing its evils and championing its supposed superiority over capitalism.<\/p>\n<p>The mass suffering inflicted by radical egalitarian ideology defies comprehension. Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin reportedly observed that while a single death constitutes tragedy, the death of millions becomes mere statistics. Those grim statistics reveal communism&#8217;s true cost: no fewer than 100 million deaths according to a credible 1997 estimate, surpassing even the 70 million military and civilian casualties of World War II, history&#8217;s deadliest conflict. This figure excludes additional millions who have suffered or perished in the three decades since the Soviet Union&#8217;s 1991 collapse.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Frank Dikotter<\/strong>, a historian specializing in modern China, calculated that the Chinese Communist Party alone killed 45 million or more people during a mere four-year period from 1958 to 1962 as part of its catastrophic industrialization drive known as the Great Leap Forward.<\/p>\n<h2>Violence Inherent to the System<\/h2>\n<p>Communism&#8217;s staggering death toll testifies to the profoundly unnatural character of the system. As historian <strong>Sean McMeekin<\/strong> has observed, communist regimes&#8217; reliance on violence and coercion to maintain power represents no coincidence but an essential feature.<\/p>\n<p>Yet dismissing communism as merely another bizarre, tragic historical chapter nearing its conclusion would constitute a grave error, despite President Ronald Reagan&#8217;s hopeful 1981 assessment. Communism feeds on envy and ignorance, both of which remain in abundant supply. Its obituary has yet to be written.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Xi Jinping<\/strong> and the Chinese Communist Party regularly pay homage to <strong>Mao<\/strong>. Over 90% of the 130 monuments to Stalin in Russia have been erected since <strong>Vladimir Putin<\/strong> seized power in 2000.<\/p>\n<h2>The Domestic Threat: Youth Embracing Failed Ideology<\/h2>\n<p>Perhaps communism&#8217;s greatest threat to America originates from within. A new generation has matured for whom the Cold War and Soviet Union represent ancient history rather than lived memory.<\/p>\n<p>An August 2026 CNBC poll revealed that nearly half of Americans aged 18 to 34 view democratic socialism \u2014 communism&#8217;s supposedly humane face \u2014 positively. A 2025 Cato Institute survey found 34% of respondents ages 18 to 29 held a favorable view of communism itself.<\/p>\n<p>American schools rightfully teach students about slavery because understanding its brutality proves essential to comprehending national history while ensuring its evils are neither forgotten, minimized, nor repeated. Communism deserves identical treatment. An ideology responsible for scores of millions of deaths should not be relegated to a few textbook paragraphs, especially as growing numbers now view it favorably.<\/p>\n<p>Candidates affiliated with the DSA have won races nationwide, most notably in New York City. <strong>Hasan Piker<\/strong>, a popular left-wing streamer who has campaigned alongside numerous Democrats, has called Chinese Communist Party leader Mao Zedong one of the great leaders of the world.<\/p>\n<h2>Florida Leads the Fight<\/h2>\n<p>Florida and Governor <strong>Ron DeSantis<\/strong> have positioned themselves at the forefront of confronting this scourge. In 2024, DeSantis and the Florida legislature enacted Senate Bill 1264, mandating that Florida public schools teach communism&#8217;s history.<\/p>\n<p>The struggle against communism must persist. Victory remains uncertain. Public schools, long captured by left-wing ideologies, constitute a crucial battleground.
