The Home Office emphasizes that a woman does not require permission from her husband, father, or brother to make these choices. The guide classifies domestic violence, threats, physical or verbal abuse, and controlling behavior toward a partner as illegal conduct.

Explicit Instructions on Sexual Consent

The document becomes particularly explicit when addressing sexual relations. The Home Office states that having sex with someone without their consent constitutes rape, which is a serious crime in the United Kingdom. The guide emphasizes that consent must be given freely and can be withdrawn at any time.

British authorities specify that a person who is asleep, intoxicated, or unable to respond clearly cannot provide consent. This rule applies even within couples—being married or in a relationship does not exempt anyone from obtaining consent.

Another section addresses the legal age of sexual consent, set at 16 years in the United Kingdom. The Home Office clarifies that anyone under 16 is considered a child and cannot legally consent to sexual activity. The guide adds that sexual relations with someone under 16 constitute a serious offense, and that a minor saying “yes” does not make the act legal.

Conservative Opposition Erupts

This educational approach by the British government has provoked considerable unease among segments of the political class. The Conservative opposition quickly seized on the publication.

Chris Philp, Shadow Home Secretary, denounced the document on social media, stating that the Home Office had just published a booklet advising illegal immigrants not to commit rape and sexual assault, including against children. The Conservative MP added that illegal and legal migrants come from places and societies where behaviors toward women are totally incompatible with Western society.

Nigel Farage, leader of Reform UK, also reacted sharply. He wrote on X that the Home Office had spent taxpayer money to produce these posters for illegal migrants, questioning why such people are allowed to enter the country.

Detailed Public Behavior Guidelines

The document extends beyond rape and sexual relations with minors. The chapter on behavior in public spaces lists a series of remarkably specific recommendations. Asylum seekers are instructed not to make sexual comments to anyone, even when they believe they are offering a compliment. They must also refrain from whistling at someone or making kissing noises.

Additional directives include not following anyone or blocking their path. Crude or offensive gestures and insults targeting someone based on their sex, religion, or appearance are also prohibited.

For each violation, the Home Office outlines potential consequences: arrest, imprisonment, loss of housing and benefits, as well as negative impacts on asylum applications.

Government Defends the Initiative

Facing the backlash, Prime Minister Andy Burnham did not disavow the Home Office approach. On the contrary, he defended the measure, arguing that British rules must be clearly explained to people arriving in the country, particularly regarding the treatment of women and girls. He also reminded that individuals who break the law are subject to removal from the United Kingdom, noting that deportations have increased significantly.

With information from Valeurs Actuelles

The British Home Office has issued a guide for asylum seekers explaining that rape is illegal, women have equal rights, and children cannot consent to sex, prompting criticism from conservatives.

[122
3080,12577,2824,1331,48
134
post-16592","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","tag-asylum-seekers","tag-gender-equality","tag-home-office","tag-immigration-policy","tag-united-kingdom","nfg_topic-europe
["GET
