Moscow has escalated its ballistic missile campaign against Kyiv in recent weeks, capitalizing on Ukraine’s dwindling stockpile of US-manufactured Patriot air defense interceptors\u2014the only system capable of downing such weapons in Ukraine’s arsenal.<\/p>\n

Railway Infrastructure Hit in Capital<\/h2>\n

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy<\/strong> confirmed that ballistic missiles struck railway facilities in Kyiv overnight, killing one person and wounding another. Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed its forces successfully targeted a locomotive depot.<\/p>\n

A separate Russian ballistic missile attack on the Kyiv region Saturday afternoon killed two additional people, local authorities reported.<\/p>\n

Russian drone operations overnight killed one person in the Zaporizhzhia region, with a subsequent daytime strike claiming three more lives and injuring 15 others, as New York Post<\/em> reports.<\/p>\n

Zelenskyy noted that three people sustained injuries when an attack hit a minibus in Zaporizhzhia’s regional capital.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Russian authorities in the southern Krasnodar region confirmed that a Ukrainian drone strike killed three people, including two children, and wounded two adults.<\/p>\n

Shopping Center Death Toll Rises<\/h2>\n

The violence followed Friday’s Russian drone assault on a shopping center in Kryvyi Rih, central Ukraine.<\/p>\n

Oleksandr Hanzha<\/strong>, head of the Dnipropetrovsk region, announced early Saturday that the death toll had climbed to 16, with four people still missing and 130 wounded.<\/p>\n

Kryvyi Rih\u2014Zelenskyy’s hometown\u2014suffered what the Ukrainian president characterized as a double-tap strike: an initial drone wave followed by a second assault targeting emergency responders.<\/p>\n

The resulting fire consumed approximately 9,000 square meters before being extinguished, allowing rescue operations to proceed.<\/p>\n

The city has endured repeated attacks throughout the conflict’s four-and-a-half-year duration. One of the deadliest occurred in April 2025, when 20 people, including nine children, were killed.<\/p>\n

Massive Russian strikes have become routine this summer. Friday’s attack came just 24 hours after Russia unleashed dozens of missiles and drones against Kyiv in a nocturnal barrage that killed 16.<\/p>\n

United Nations data released last week identified Kyiv as among July’s hardest-hit cities, with at least 54 civilians killed and 202 wounded.<\/p>\n

Ukraine Strikes Deep Into Russian Territory<\/h2>\n

Ukraine has increasingly brought the conflict onto Russian soil through long-range drone campaigns targeting oil infrastructure, creating fuel shortages across Russia.<\/p>\n

Ukrainian forces have also struck warehouses belonging to Wildberries, Russia’s largest online retailer, a tactic designed to unsettle the Russian civilian population.<\/p>\n

The Russian online outlet Astra reported Saturday that a Ukrainian drone ignited an oil refinery in the Samara region. Regional officials confirmed damage at an unidentified industrial facility and a logistics center operated by Ozon, a Wildberries competitor.<\/p>\n

Zelenskyy confirmed Saturday that Ukrainian forces successfully struck the Novokuibyshevsk oil refinery in Samara\u2014located approximately 620 miles from the front lines.<\/p>\n
