A 33-year-old cryptocurrency trader from western Iran, identified by the pseudonym Nima<\/strong>, described the mounting pressure on ordinary Iranians. Despite having better access to foreign currency than most citizens through his crypto trading activities, he reported that grocery costs have tripled from already elevated levels, with some items seeing fourfold increases. The financial strain is forcing him to make difficult choices between essential purchases and other necessities.<\/p>\n

Iran’s economic indicators paint a grim picture. Annual inflation has now exceeded 80 percent, while unemployment climbed to a four-year peak of 9.1 percent in June. Many employers are demanding 12-hour workdays across six-day weeks without offering insurance, while finding pretexts to reduce wages whenever possible.<\/p>\n

Regime Claims Food Security<\/h2>\n

Iranian agriculture minister Gholamreza Nouri-Ghezeljeh<\/strong> insisted Monday that Iran’s food security remains intact despite U.S. sanctions. He claimed that 85 percent of Iran’s food production comes from domestic sources, with measures in place to secure remaining imports.<\/p>\n

The agriculture minister reported substantial agricultural output increases this year, including 19 percent growth in poultry and eggs, 18 percent from greenhouse production, and 62 percent in seedlings. He also stated that Iran has received three million metric tons of imported food despite the blockade.
