Critics have raised alarm that such funds can be diverted to support militant operations, creating genuine risk that religious and financial networks become conduits for radicalization.<\/p>\n<h2>Double Standards in Counterterrorism<\/h2>\n<p>While security experts continue debating al-Qaeda&#8217;s contemporary relevance, Iran has constructed a durable infrastructure of chaos and terrorism across multiple continents. Western societies must cease treating Shiite extremism as cultural tradition when it appears in public spaces, as diaspora politics when participants wave portraits of ayatollahs, and as geopolitical concern only when Iranian proxies launch rocket attacks.<\/p>\n<p>If Sunni extremism faces rigorous scrutiny in the name of security and liberal democratic values, Shiite extremism must be held to identical standards.
