Rupert Lowe<\/strong>, the MP for Great Yarmouth who leads Restore Britain, confirmed that his attempt to forge a right-wing alliance has failed after Reform UK sources ruled out any deal while Charlie Downes<\/strong> remains involved with his party, according to George Bunn<\/strong> writing in GB News<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Lowe was suspended from Reform UK in March of last year and has since been working to bring the two parties together under a “Unite the Right” banner. While Farage had previously indicated openness to discussions, senior Reform UK insiders told the i Paper<\/em> that Lowe had sabotaged negotiations by refusing to remove Downes, the co-founder of Restore Britain, from his position.<\/p>\n

In a social media statement, Lowe sought to move past the personality conflicts that have derailed the talks. He wrote that Reform UK’s decision to walk away was theirs to make, adding that he had no interest in engaging with personal disputes. A genuine attempt was made<\/em>, he stated, emphasizing that his offer was rooted in policy rather than personalities.<\/p>\n

The Great Yarmouth MP said he did not particularly enjoy making the overture but felt it was the right course of action. He left the door open for future policy-focused discussions, noting that Reform UK knows how to reach him if they wish to engage on substantive issues rather than personal matters.<\/p>\n

Lowe indicated his focus would now return to presenting what he described as a laser-focused plan to the British people, signaling that Restore Britain will continue operating independently of Reform UK.<\/p>\n

The breakdown in talks follows reported concerns within Reform UK over comments attributed to Downes. Sources close to the party suggested Farage was deeply troubled by online statements from the Restore Britain co-founder that implied the Reform UK leader had been influenced by Jewish supporters and that Muslims are inherently less British than Christians.<\/p>\n

These controversial remarks appear to have created an insurmountable obstacle to any formal cooperation between the two parties, with Reform UK insiders making clear that no pact would be possible while Downes remains a central figure in Restore Britain’s leadership structure.<\/p>\n
