The court also determined the particular severity of his guilt, a legal designation that significantly restricts the possibility of parole after 15 years.

In February 2025, Farhad N. deliberately drove his vehicle from behind into the demonstration. A woman and her two-year-old daughter suffered such severe injuries that both died shortly afterward. Numerous other victims sustained life-threatening wounds, with many continuing to suffer from serious physical and psychological trauma. The presiding judge stated that the defendant wanted to attack and kill randomly selected people in Germany as a reaction to developments in Islamic countries. The perpetrator intended to commit what he considered a godly act and prove himself as a good Muslim before Allah, himself, and his family.

Federal prosecutors had also identified the ramming as a deliberate attack. One prosecutor stated during closing arguments that the action was clearly designed to destroy human lives.

Attack Viewed as Allah’s Will

According to the court’s findings, the defendant believed his attack corresponded to Allah’s will and represented a necessary response to actions by the United States and other Western states in Gaza and Afghanistan. Personal feelings of rage, disappointment, and bitterness also played a role in his radicalization.

Federal prosecutors had demanded life imprisonment with a finding of particular guilt severity. The defense argued for 15 years imprisonment and placement in a psychiatric facility, citing signs of hebephrenic schizophrenia. The court rejected this argument.

Failed Asylum Seeker With Criminal Record

Farhad N. arrived in Germany at the end of 2016. His asylum application was rejected, though he later received a temporary suspension of deportation. Prior to the attack, he was known to police for drug offenses and shoplifting. He was overpowered and arrested by police officers immediately after the ramming.

The case highlights ongoing concerns about failed asylum seekers remaining in Germany despite rejected applications and criminal histories. The defendant’s status allowed him to remain in the country for years before carrying out the deadly attack on civilians.

With information from Nius

A Munich court sentenced a 25-year-old Afghan man to life in prison for an Islamist-motivated vehicle attack that killed a mother and toddler at a trade union demonstration.

[122
11093,25,3917,3533,3940,4446
134
post-13878","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","tag-farhad-n","tag-germany","tag-islamic-extremism","tag-life-sentence","tag-munich","tag-vehicle-attack","nfg_topic-europe
["GET
