Additional legal action targeting other sections of the bill is under consideration.<\/p>\n<h2>Seven Layers of Obstruction<\/h2>\n<p>The New York law constructs a multi-tiered wall between federal immigration authorities and state resources. First, it prohibits state and local agencies from entering new cooperative agreements with Immigration and Customs Enforcement\u2014known as 287(g) agreements\u2014while terminating all existing partnerships.<\/p>\n<p>Second, the statute prevents New York detention facilities from leasing space to federal immigration agencies and authorizes designated &#8220;sensitive locations&#8221; to deny immigration agents access to non-public areas.<\/p>\n<p>Third, S9005C establishes a state-based cause of action permitting illegal aliens to sue officials for alleged constitutional rights violations.<\/p>\n<p>Fourth, the measure bars state and municipal workers from sharing information about illegal aliens with immigration authorities, including names, Social Security numbers, physical descriptions, addresses, phone numbers, financial or medical records, and employment or educational locations.<\/p>\n<p>Fifth, it prohibits state and local employees from questioning illegal aliens based on immigration warrants or detainers.<\/p>\n<p>Sixth, it forbids state and municipal workers from inquiring about or collecting information regarding citizenship, immigration status, nationality, or country of origin, except when administering public benefits or conducting voter registration.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, in what may be the most troubling provision amid unprecedented death threats against ICE personnel, the law criminalizes the wearing of masks by federal, state, and local law enforcement officers while on duty in public.<\/p>\n<h2>Blueprint for a Sanctuary Nation<\/h2>\n<p>The legislation&#8217;s objective is unmistakable: eliminating every possible channel for cooperation with federal immigration officials. <strong>Hochul&#8217;s<\/strong> policy framework prioritizes shielding illegal aliens from removal regardless of their criminal histories. Open-borders advocates in other jurisdictions are expected to view this measure as a template for nationwide replication, effectively transforming America into what critics call a Sanctuary Nation.<\/p>\n<h2>Deadly Consequences Already Documented<\/h2>\n<p>For nearly a decade, criminal illegal aliens have understood that New York&#8217;s political leadership will deploy every available tool to shield them from federal law enforcement. Previous sanctuary policies enacted through executive orders have already resulted in the mass release of thousands of individuals convicted of murder, terrorism, and sexual assault back onto American streets.<\/p>\n<p>New York&#8217;s existing sanctuary framework led to the release of nearly 7,000 criminal aliens in 2025 alone. These individuals were convicted of hundreds of homicides, assaults, burglaries, robberies, drug and weapons violations, and predatory sexual offenses.<\/p>\n<p>At the beginning of 2026, another 7,000 criminal aliens remained in New York custody, yet ICE has been unable to secure state cooperation for their removal.<\/p>\n<p>Consequently, ICE has been forced to operate independently. Since 2025, the agency has arrested dozens of illegal aliens in New York convicted of serious crimes including murder, assault, child pornography possession, and sexual conduct with minors. These arrests, however significant, represent only a small fraction of violent convicted criminals who remain at large throughout the state.<\/p>\n<h2>Federal Response Required<\/h2>\n<p><strong>President Trump<\/strong> has long identified the dangers inherent in sanctuary policies and has consistently worked to eliminate them. Despite years of litigation and attempts to condition federal funding on cooperation, states like New York continue openly obstructing federal immigration enforcement.<\/p>\n<p>Congressional intervention is now essential.
