Coast Guard personnel immediately began performing CPR on the victim before requesting emergency medical evacuation.<\/p>\n<p>A Coast Guard Air Station Ventura MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew was diverted to the scene to conduct the medical evacuation. The helicopter crew hoisted the patient from the vessel and continued administering CPR while transporting him to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n<p>Medical staff at the hospital were able to temporarily restore the man&#8217;s pulse, but he ultimately succumbed despite the rescue efforts. The deceased man&#8217;s identity has not been released.<\/p>\n<p>The Coast Guard issued imagery showing the cramped conditions aboard the small vessel, with multiple occupants visible wearing life jackets in tight quarters.<\/p>\n<p>The alert came from a concerned citizen who contacted authorities to report the suspected smuggling operation near San Clemente Island.
