Newt Gingrich<\/strong> shared his thinking in a strategy memo distributed to Senate Republicans during a closed luncheon this week. The document, titled “The Republican Opportunity to Win Big in 2026,” lays out his view that Democrats have become dangerously vulnerable due to their embrace of socialist policies and fringe social positions.<\/p>\n The memo argues that the Democratic Party’s shift leftward represents its greatest weakness heading into the November elections. While socialism as a concept has gained some traction among younger voters after what Gingrich characterizes as college indoctrination, he contends that framing it as “big government socialism” makes it far less palatable even to Generation Z.<\/p>\n Gingrich outlined a straightforward case against what he calls BGS: it fails to create jobs, raise wages, provide training or education, improve health outcomes, or function sustainably. Instead, it simply exhausts available resources.<\/p>\n The former Speaker acknowledged Republicans face real challenges. Democrats could potentially win by making the elections a referendum on current conditions, capitalizing on ongoing inflation concerns and opposition to the Iran conflict that threaten GOP control of both chambers.<\/p>\n However, Gingrich believes Republicans can achieve a historic rout if they successfully frame the election as a choice between competing visions. He drew comparisons to the Jeffersonian destruction of the Federalist Party between 1796 and 1812.<\/p>\n Senate Republicans who attended the luncheon expressed enthusiasm for the approach, particularly regarding the Democratic Socialists of America and its new manifesto.<\/p>\n Senator James Lankford<\/strong> of Oklahoma told reporters the Democrats are embracing an extreme anti-American platform calling for abolishing the Senate, dismantling the Pentagon, eliminating ICE, and closing all prisons\u2014positions far outside the American mainstream.<\/p>\n Senator Roger Marshall<\/strong> of Kansas said Gingrich views the DSA message as a political gift to Republicans, while Senator Rick Scott<\/strong> of Florida noted the core pitch centered on Republicans holding the popular position on issues enjoying over 80 percent public support.<\/p>\n Executing this strategy will require substantial resources. Republicans need robust ground operations and significant advertising budgets to carry out the plan.<\/p>\n Current polling presents challenges. President Trump maintains a negative approval rating of 40-58, and Democrats hold a 5 percent advantage on generic ballot polling, according to RealClearPolitics averages.<\/p>\n Gingrich, who served 10 terms in the House, met with President Trump at the Oval Office Wednesday night before returning to Bern with his wife Callista Gingrich<\/strong>, the U.S. Ambassador to Switzerland.
