The Greens (Gr\u00fcnen) in the Bavarian Parliament have submitted a proposal aimed at preventing the formation of long queues in front of women’s restrooms in public spaces in the future. In the proposal titled \u201cWomen Have to Wait Too\u201d<\/a>, the state government is requested to ensure that future building regulations provide for \u201can equal number of toilet facilities for women and men in assembly venues.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThese queues in front of the women\u2019s restrooms are politically mandated,\u201d<\/strong><\/em> said Greens MP Julia Post in an Instagram post regarding the proposal. Currently, the law states that \u201cmore men\u2019s toilets must be built. And this is despite the fact that women a) go more often and b) need more time.\u201d A new law aims to address this issue.<\/p>\n

Do Urinals Make the Difference?<\/h2>\n

Post is likely referring to Article 12 of the Bavarian Assembly Venue Regulation. It stipulates that assembly venues must provide approximately 1.2 toilet seats for women and 0.8 toilet seats plus 1.2 urinals for men per 100 visitors. When urinals are included, men\u2019s restrooms have a higher total number of facilities but fewer seated places. For 1,000 visitors, this means twelve toilets for women and eight seated toilets for men plus twelve urinals.<\/p>\n
