He fractured his shoulder in a 2019 fall, endured multiple public stumbles and freezing episodes during 2023 and 2024, and fell again in October 2025 while walking through the Capitol ahead of a Senate vote.<\/p>\n<p>This latest hospitalization marks McConnell&#8217;s second extended medical stay in recent months. He spent approximately eight days in a hospital in February for what his staff described as flu-like symptoms.<\/p>\n<p>Top Senate Republicans including Majority Leader <strong>John Thune<\/strong> of South Dakota and Senator <strong>John Barrasso<\/strong> of Wyoming have attempted to calm concerns by claiming they have held positive phone conversations with McConnell during his confinement. His staff issued a brief statement last week saying only that he <em>continues to improve<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Kentucky&#8217;s Democratic Governor <strong>Andy Beshear<\/strong> escalated pressure on McConnell Wednesday by sending a formal letter demanding transparency about the senator&#8217;s medical condition. Beshear argued that public officials owe their constituents clear communication about their ability to serve, and that allowing media speculation to continue is unfair both to McConnell and Kentucky voters.<\/p>\n<p>McConnell made history as the longest-serving Senate leader before relinquishing the post to Thune in January 2025.
