Sudanese man attacked woman inside her store in central Athens
A Sudanese man with multiple prior convictions attempted to rape an Athens shopkeeper before fleeing to a polyclinic where he threatened staff and patients with a knife.
The woman escaped thanks to her reflexes. As she described, the perpetrator entered the store pretending to be a customer. He asked her to show him shoes, and the moment she turned her back to serve him, she felt his body pressed against hers. She began screaming loudly, immediately exited the shop, and escaped. The perpetrator followed her shortly afterward.
According to information, outside the store on Menandrou Street, he used drugs. A knife was found on him, which fortunately he did not use against the woman.
The Invasion of the Polyclinic
His behavior did not stop there. From Menandrou, he ran and entered a nearby polyclinic, holding the knife and appearing determined to cause harm.
On the first floor, he was restrained by employees and customers, while the police were immediately notified. There, his extensive criminal record was also revealed.
The Perpetrator’s Criminal Past
The Sudanese man has a long history with the justice system. In 2021, he was convicted of attempted rape in Kalamata, using a similar method. He was released with conditions.
In 2024, he was imprisoned with a three-year sentence for attempted robbery, theft, and weapon possession, but was released after only three months. In 2025, he was arrested again for offenses against sexual dignity.
He is in Greece illegally, with his asylum application having been rejected. Despite this, he had filed an appeal, which was scheduled to be heard these days, as Newsbomb reports.
The perpetrator was arrested and brought before the justice system.
