After 13 years of absence, the legendary Scary Movie series returns with its sixth installment, and from the first trailer released in early March 2026, it is clear: the Wayans brothers (Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen Ivory) are not playing it safe. The film, set to be released in theaters on June 5, 2026 (after a slight change from the original projections), brings back not only Anna Faris (Cindy), Regina Hall (Brenda), and Marlon Wayans (Shorty), but also the very spirit of the series: unfiltered humor, equal-opportunity offense, and zero respect for “sacred cows.”
Marlon Wayans made it clear in recent interviews (among others with Entertainment Weekly and Deadline):
“We want to bring comedy back like it used to be. And the only way is to cancel the cancel culture.”
This phrase is no accident—it reflects the film’s official stance against what it considers “excessive sensitivity” and the “woke agenda,” which, according to him, has killed free humor.
The trailer opens right away with one of the most characteristic (and controversial) jokes: A woman is stabbed by Ghostface, another lady shouts “He stabbed her!”, and the victim replies, “Not ‘her’! My pronouns are they/them! He stabbed them!” The joke explicitly references a scene from Scream VI featuring Mindy (who uses she/they pronouns) and more generally alludes to the current discussion around pronouns and non-binary identities. For some, this is a transphobic line; for others, it’s classic Scary Movie humor that satirizes everything—even the social trends of its time.
And it doesn’t stop there. The trailer is full of lines playing on political and social issues:
- Cindy says, “I’m Republican now, so I’m supposed to be racist,” and Brenda responds, “All white people are racist anyway, come here!”
- A group arriving at a party says, “We want to drink, play bad music, do half-gay dumb stuff.” To which the reply is: “Why only half-gay?”
The film satirizes recent horror movies, such as Get Out, M3GAN, Terrifier, Sinners, Smile, Longlegs, The Substance, Wednesday, and, of course, the Scream universe. It could be summed up with this phrase:
