Ukraine Drone Strike Kills One, Ignites Russian Oil Terminal
A Ukrainian drone strike on Russia's Krasnodar region killed one person and wounded three others, marking an escalation in Kyiv's campaign targeting Russian military and energy infrastructure.
Debris from the downed drone ignited a fire at a sea terminal facility, according to regional Governor Veniamin Kondratyev. While the governor provided limited details, Russian media sources reported that a Black Sea export terminal handling crude oil, petroleum products, and liquefied gas in the village of Volna sustained damage in the attack, as Breitbart News reports.
Ukraine’s General Staff declined to issue a statement regarding the Krasnodar incident Saturday but confirmed that Ukrainian forces had successfully struck an oil preparation and pumping station overnight in Russia’s Volgograd region, alongside targets in Russian-occupied territories within Ukraine’s Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions.
The strike follows recent statements from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who announced that his country’s forces had hit multiple military and energy sites far inside Russian borders, including a military factory he identified as a supplier of components for Russian drones and missiles.
Zelenskyy stated Wednesday that Ukrainian FP-5 Flamingo long-range missiles successfully struck the facility in Cheboksary, located in the Chuvashiya region more than 900 kilometers from the front line.
More than four years into Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the sprawling 1,000-kilometer front line has remained largely frozen as both sides deploy extensive drone warfare that complicates territorial advances. Consequently, both nations have increasingly turned to long-range strike capabilities as a primary strategic tool.
Last week, Russian President Vladimir Putin pledged to bolster air defense systems following Ukrainian attacks that ignited an oil terminal in St. Petersburg and struck a nearby naval base, overshadowing a major economic forum in his home city.
Meanwhile, Russian strikes injured nine people in Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region, sparking a fire at a local marketplace, regional authorities reported. Russia launched more than 20 attacks across three districts of the region using drones and aerial bombs, according to regional head Oleksandr Hanzha in a Saturday Telegram post. Six victims required hospitalization, including one man in critical condition.
