White Working-Class Students Most Disadvantaged in Britain
White working-class students in Britain are the most disadvantaged in the education system, with higher absence rates and special education needs, yet the issue receives little attention.
The figures, shared with broadcaster ITV through the Independent Inquiry into White Working Class Educational Outcomes, reveal stark disparities that challenge prevailing narratives about educational inequality in the United Kingdom, as Breitbart News reports.
Government data shows that white working-class students are nearly twice as likely to be absent from school compared to other demographic groups. More alarmingly, these students are two and a half times more likely to be severely absent, defined as missing over half of all lessons.
The inquiry also uncovered that 34 per cent of white working-class students require special education assistance, compared to just 19 per cent across all other groups combined.
Education Secretary Phillipson acknowledged the crisis in a recent statement, admitting that white working-class children receive among the worst outcomes in the British education system. She cited class background and family income as major indicators, pledging that tackling child poverty would be a priority for the government.
When questioned about concrete plans to address the disparity, Phillipson announced a Mission North East scheme set to launch later this year but could not provide specific details about the programme. She conceded that if officials had all the answers, the problem would have been solved already.
Despite being well-documented for years, the academic underperformance of white working-class students, particularly boys, remains a largely taboo subject in legacy media and among establishment politicians.
Former Oxford University professor Peter Edwards has suggested that the topic has become politically incorrect to discuss, given that public discourse typically focuses exclusively on the experiences of women and ethnic minorities. Edwards warned Parliament in 2020 that failure to address this educational crisis could result in grave socio-economic and socio-political consequences for the nation.
He cautioned that continuing to provide diversity, equity, and inclusion programs exclusively for other racial groups while ignoring white working-class boys would create an aggrieved population segment and potentially destabilise the very fabric of British society.
Among major political parties, only Nigel Farage’s Reform UK has committed to fully repealing all DEI policies and anti-white discrimination measures, replacing them with merit-based systems.
Shadow Education Secretary Suella Braverman stated that a Reform government would repeal the Equality Act, which she described as institutionalising DEI in the public sector by legally requiring public servants to treat minority groups differently.
Braverman has been outspoken against what she characterises as woke culture that demonises white boys while elevating ethnic minorities. She argued last month that the drive to pander to minority communities has completely undermined white working-class boys and their families, questioning whether children taught to hate themselves and their country because of their skin colour can be expected to thrive academically.
