Pete Hegseth left no room for misinterpretation. Speaking today at the American Cemetery in Normandy in Colleville-sur-Mer, the U.S. Secretary of Defense characterized the situation facing Europe as an invasion of dangerous ideologies arriving from the sea.

Unfortunately today, various European beaches are being stormed by various, dangerous ideologies. Beaches in Spain, Italy, Greece, and Bulgaria, boats and people are arriving, Hegseth emphasized during his speech marking the 82nd anniversary of the Allied landing.

The American official directly connected the historic D-Day event with today’s problem. He referred to the men buried there, before the 9,387 white crosses, and reminded that they fought in an alliance where each nation gave real blood, industry, and sacrifice. They did not remain stuck in empty slogans and luxurious summits.

When will European capitals do something about this invasion, or is it too late? I pray it is not and I believe it is not, he added emphatically.

Hegseth insisted that America must show the way and will do so, but allies must stand beside it. He further stressed that peace is ensured only through strength. In his speech, which he delivered in the presence of his French counterpart Catherine Vautrin, he avoided explicitly referring to other ongoing conflicts.

This came after his decision not to participate in the international ceremony and to focus exclusively on the American event, as he announced the previous day.

Hegseth’s comments constitute yet another clear indication of the Trump administration’s hard stance toward European elites and their immigration policies.
