Jill Biden: I Thought Joe Was Having a Stroke at Debate
Jill Biden revealed she feared her husband was having a stroke during his June debate performance that led him to withdraw from the presidential race less than a month later.
In remarks set to air on CBS Sunday Morning, Jill Biden described the moment she watched then-President Joe Biden struggle through the CNN debate as terrifying and unlike anything she had witnessed before or since, as Breitbart News reports.
When asked by reporter Rita Braver whether she was horrified watching the debate unfold, the former first lady made a stark admission about her immediate reaction to her husband’s condition on stage.
I wasn’t horrified, I was frightened because I had never, ever seen Joe like that, she stated, emphasizing that neither before nor after that night had she observed similar behavior from the president.
Pressed on what she believed was happening during the Atlanta debate, Jill Biden confessed she genuinely thought her husband might be experiencing a medical emergency in real time.
The former first lady said she watched the debate thinking he might be having a stroke, describing the experience as terrifying.
The June 27, 2024 debate performance triggered widespread bipartisan alarm about President Biden’s fitness for office. Less than a month later, on July 21, 2024, Biden withdrew from the presidential race via a letter posted to social media.
Following his exit, Biden immediately endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the Democratic nomination. Harris herself attempted to downplay the debate debacle, characterizing Biden’s performance as merely a slow start against Donald Trump.
The interview revelation raises fresh questions about what White House staff and family members observed regarding the president’s condition in the months leading up to his withdrawal from the race.
