Devastating Russian Bombing Near Kyiv Kills 4, Injures 15+
Nighttime missile and drone strikes on Kyiv targeted energy infrastructure, causing casualties and damage, as Zelensky warns Russia may exploit Middle East conflicts to intensify attacks on Europe.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the main target of the attacks was the “energy infrastructure of the Kyiv region.” In total, Russia launched approximately 430 drones and 68 missiles overnight.
The Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed that the attacks focused on energy and industrial facilities supporting the Ukrainian armed forces, as well as military airfields.
The attacks came just days after the United States decided to postpone peace talks between Russia and Ukraine, citing wars in the Middle East. While the US and Israel carry out attacks on Iran, Russia limits itself to expressions of dissatisfaction, demonstrating either its inability or its decision not to support its allies.
Moscow expects to benefit from the rise in global energy prices and is occupied with the hope that conflicts in the Middle East will divert attention from Ukraine.
Zelensky called on Western allies to give “absolute attention” to increasing the production of anti-aircraft missiles. “Russia will try to exploit the war in the Middle East to cause even greater destruction in Europe, in Ukraine,” he emphasized in a social media post.
He highlighted the need for Europe to prepare for the production of anti-aircraft systems, particularly those capable of countering ballistic threats. At the same time, Kyiv is awaiting approval from the US government for a significant drone production deal proposed last year.
Zelensky expressed his opposition to the 30-day suspension of sanctions on Russian oil by the United States, calling the decision “wrong” and insufficient to help stop the Russian offensive in Ukraine.
Two Ukrainian drones struck a refinery and a port in the Krasnodar region, while authorities reported that three people were injured in an attack on the Kavkaz port. Additionally, a drone caused a fire at the region’s oil refinery.
