Ukrainian Drone Hits Russian Oil Terminal
Ukrainian drone strikes ignited fires at a Russian oil terminal in Krasnodar, marking the latest escalation in Kyiv's intensifying campaign against Moscow's energy infrastructure financing its military operations.
Authorities in Novorossiysk reported that debris from the overnight attack ignited a blaze at an oil facility, leaving two people injured. The Astra news outlet identified the target as the Sheskharis oil terminal and depot, a critical hub for Transneft’s main pipeline operations serving the region. Photographs circulated by Astra appeared to capture smoke billowing from the facility, though independent verification remains unavailable. Ukrainian officials have not yet responded to reports of the strike.
The attack represents the latest in an intensifying series of Ukrainian operations targeting Russian petroleum assets. Kyiv has substantially upgraded its strike capabilities through domestically-developed drone and missile systems, enabling regular assaults on infrastructure that finances Russia’s four-year military campaign. Such operations have become near-daily events across Russian territory.
The escalation extends beyond oil infrastructure. A Ukrainian drone attack on a dormitory building in Starobilsk, located in Russian-controlled Luhansk, resulted in 11 deaths, Moscow-backed officials confirmed Saturday. Russian President Vladimir Putin condemned the strike as a “crime” and directed military leadership to present retaliation proposals, insisting no military or law enforcement targets occupied the college vicinity.
At an emergency United Nations Security Council session convened at Russia’s request, Ukrainian Ambassador Melnyk Andrii rejected allegations of war crimes as “pure propaganda show,” contending that operations on May 22 targeted exclusively Russian military assets rather than civilian infrastructure.
